Is Appendix a Useful Organ? http://www.springfieldwellnesscentre.com/appendix-operation-what-is-that/ Since it is an extension of the cecum, an organ well developed in plant-eating animals, it had necessary beneficial intestinal bacteria that helped in digestion of plant material. Evolution has made this redundant in humans as humans cannot digest plant cellulose. So it was thought as a vestigial or useless organ. But now new theories are emerging that suggests that the appendix has abundant normal gut flora (beneficial bacteria) that maintains the equilibrium between the good and bad bacteria. Appendix can supply useful bacteria in case of diarrhea or gut infection. So the notion that it is a useless organ is not really valid. #DrMaran #Appendicitis #Appendectomy #GastroChennai #GastroenterologistChennai #SpringfieldWellnessCentre

What is appendix?

An Appendix is a tube or worm like structure that exists at the juncture of the small and large intestine. To be precise, it is connected to the cecum, which is a pouch-like structure of the large intestine or the colon. It is medically termed Vermiform Appendix. The average length of the human appendix is 9 cm. Anatomically it is usually located in the right side of lower abdomen near the right hip bone.  #DrMaran   #Appendicitis   #Appendectomy #GastroChennai   #GastroenterologistChennai #SpringfieldWellnessCentre   #Laparoscopy #LaparoscopicAppendicectom y

Obesity and Hernia

#Obesity is indeed a big risk factor for #Hernia. Abdominal pressure of an obese person is typically higher. This abnormal pressure can either induce #Hernia or can make #Hernia surgeries more complex. It should also be borne in mind that after the #Hernia surgery, the chances of the #Hernia recurring is very high in obese individuals. Because the excess fat does not allow the Hernia mesh to settle and get fixed. Slippage of mesh is quite common. So it is imperative that you control your weight. #DrMaran #FightObesity #FightHernia #SpringfieldWellnessCentre
