Is Appendix a Useful Organ?
http://www.springfieldwellnesscentre.com/appendix-operation-what-is-that/
Since it is an extension of the cecum, an organ well developed in plant-eating animals, it had necessary beneficial intestinal bacteria that helped in digestion of plant material.

Evolution has made this redundant in humans as humans cannot digest plant cellulose. So it was thought as a vestigial or useless organ.

But now new theories are emerging that suggests that the appendix has abundant normal gut flora (beneficial bacteria) that maintains the equilibrium between the good and bad bacteria. Appendix can supply useful bacteria in case of diarrhea or gut infection. So the notion that it is a useless organ is not really valid.

Complications of Abdominal Wall Hernia

Hernia correction surgery is one of the common surgeries performed these days. They happen by thousands every year throughout India. Despite this many do not perform Hernia surgery due to reasons like fearing a surgery, postponing the surgery for many reasons like financial shortage, poor diagnosis (happens mostly in rare hernia cases), etc. However it may be noted that not getting your Hernia treated surgically can lead to other complications which are sometimes life threatening too. http://www.springfieldwellnesscentre.com/complications-abdominal-wall-hernia/

Abscess in Appendix

One of the complications of a burst  #appendix  is the formation of something called  #abscess  around the area where the burst has happened. An abscess is a collection of pus around the area. This collection of pus is because the body's immune system has been fighting the infection. The treatment for abscess is usually administering antibiotics. But before administering the antibiotics, when appendectomy is done, the pus in the abscess area is drained mandatory as part of the cleaning of the abdomen.
